Some individuals can easily find balance in their life while others may struggle to find that inner peace. From dealing with stress at work or in our personal lives to dealing with everyday issues and annoyances, we all have things we need to prioritize and cope with. The team at Liddell has put together some useful tips to help you find the perfect balance.
Whether you are feeling overwhelmed, stressed, or anxious with everyday life, there are some easy ways to give yourself some breathing room and to recenter your focus and energy for the things that matter most to you.
Learn to prioritize
We all have busy lives and schedules to cater to and things to accomplish. By listing out and prioritizing the items that mean the most to you, or goals you are striving to reach, you can outline what you need to focus on first, second, and so forth. For some, this entails nurturing our children or pets; for others, it may be planning ahead to make the next work/home project a success. For many, it’s a combination of all of the above.
Learning how to manage your stress effectively
All of us have different levels of stress that we carry, and with that comes the ‘triggers’ that ‘set us off’ when that stress reaches maximum capacity. Sometimes taking a moment to calm yourself with two minutes of deep breathing can do the trick. If you find yourself in a stressful situation, take a step back and mentally focus on the things that bring you the most joy, or the goals you are working toward, to give your mind a brief pause.
Creating your support system
Humans are social creatures by nature and having people to lean on and to give you feedback can make all the difference when coping with stress. These people can be friends, family, and colleagues who add value to your life, and who bring you stability when you need it most. There are also online and anonymous resources available that can empathize with you as well as empower you. Conversely, if you are around individuals who continually contribute to stress or negatively impact your state of mind, consider cutting ties with those individuals.
Building up your self-esteem
While we have a tendency to revel in our positive attributes, having healthy self-esteem also includes ‘calling yourself out’ on the things you need to work on. By stating our shortcomings and weaknesses, we can start to address things we need to improve on in order to continue to improve. Consider starting your own pros/cons list and be honest with yourself. What are the things you do well? What are some things you could do better? Looking in the mirror is the first step to living a healthier, more fulfilling life.
Giving yourself time to rest
Rest doesn’t always mean sleeping. Health benefits can also come from sitting and reflecting on your day, or by doing things that bring you peace and happiness. Taking time to ‘check out’ to heal yourself will go a long way for you personally, as well as for the people around you.
Consider healthier alternatives
Let’s be honest, it isn’t always easy to be active, to go for a walk, or to work out after a long day. Some people prioritize their health and adapt their lifestyle to be the number one priority. Aside from being active and making healthier food choices, natural health products, and supplements can help change your lifestyle, eating habits, and your general outlook on life, to help create more stable positive outcomes.
